To Add the Morning Sun between the Mountains

Although the final pattern is similar to that of an arctic string figure "The Moon between the Mountains", the procedure is quite different.

The Morning Sun and Two Mountains

1. Do Opening A.

2. Release little fingers.

3. Little fingers pick up the far index-finger string.

4. The right middle finger picks up the left palm string.

5. The left middle finger picks up the right palm string through the right middle-finger loop.

6. Release little fingers.

7. Thumbs move over index-finger loops, then move into the middle-finger loop from above and remove it.
As shown below, this loop will become the morning sun.

8. Middle fingers move over index-finger loops and upper far thumb strings, and pick up lower far thumb strings.

9. Release thumbs. (Do not strain the strings.)

10. Thumbs move over index-finger loops, then move into middle-finger loops from below and remove them.

11. Little fingers move under index-finger loops and pick up the circle hanging down from the center.

12. Index fingers move toward you and twist their loops 360-degrees.

13. Release little fingers and adjust the size of the circle by straining the strings.

14. Thumbs hold down near index-finger strings.

15. Index fingers hook up the near thumb string from the near side. Index-finger loops drop naturally.

The Morning Sun and Two Mountains

The Morning Sun and Four Mountains

1. Do Steps 1-12 of The Morning Sun and Two Mountains.

2. Do Step 12 of The Morning Sun and Two Mountains, again.

3. Thumbs move under near index-finger strings and pick up far index-finger strings.

4. Middle fingers move over near index-finger strings and pick up far thumb strings. Release thumbs.

5. Thumbs move over index-finger loops and pick up near middle-finger strings. Release middle fingers.

6. Release little fingers and adjust the size of the circle and adjacent mountains properly using middle, ring and little fingers.

7. Thumbs hold down near index-finger strings.

8. Index fingers hook up the near thumb string from the near side. Index-finger loops drop naturally.

The Morning Sun and Four Mountains

By repeating Steps 2-5, you can add two mountains.

Others

If you do different procedures on your left and right hands, you can make asymmetric figures as shown below.

1. Do Steps 1-12 of The Morning Sun and Two Mountains.

2. Do Steps 2-5 of The Morning Sun and Four Mountains on the right (left) hand only.
This repeatable procedure adds a Mountain on the right (left) hand side.

3. Do Steps 6-8 of The Morning Sun and Four Mountains.
