1. Do Position 1.
2. Wrap the left palm string around the left thumb one turn.
3. Pull the left thumb loop below the near thumb string. The right index-finger picks up it.
4. The left index finger picks up the right palm string through the right index-finger loop.
5. The right index finger picks up the left palm string through the left index-finger loop using its tip.
6. Release the left hand.
7. Pull both right index-finger loops slightly from the back of the right index finger.
8. Put the lower right index-finger loop into the upper one (left photo).
The left thumb picks up the lower right index-finger loop and the left little finger picks up the upper one as shown below (right photo).
9. Separate the hands.
10. Give a 180-degree twist toward you to thumb loops.
(Temporarily hold far thumb strings with index and middle fingers, then release thumbs and insert thumbs into the loops from above.)
11. Thumbs pick up near little-finger strings.
12. Do the Caroline extension.
