Stairs

This is distributed in arctic regions while its name varies from place to place.

1. Do Position 1. The near thumb string is shortened.



2. Index fingers hook up the near thumb string from the near side.

 

3. The right thumb moves into the left thumb loop from below and shares it.
  The left thumb moves into the right thumb loop from below and shares it.

   

4. The left and right little fingers hook down and hold the left far index-finger string and the right far thumb string, respectively.
  The little-finger loop drops naturally.

 

(Steps 1-4 are identical to those of "A Dog with Large Ears" although left and right are reversed.)

5. Release thumbs.



6. The right thumb moves away from you under all strings, then moves back up into the right index-finger loop from below
   and hooks down the right far index-finger string.
   Rotate the right thumb down, toward you and back to position with the right far index-finger string.
   The left thumb moves away from you under all strings, then moves back up into the loop that goes around the left far index-finger string
   and hooks down the upper string of the loop.
   Rotate the left thumb down, toward you and back to position with this string.



7. Give a 180-degree twist toward you to thumb loops.
   (Temporarily hold far thumb strings with index and middle fingers, then release thumbs and insert thumbs into the loops from above.)



8. Thumbs pick up the near index-finger string. Navajo thumbs.

 

9. Release index fingers. Index fingers move into thumb loops from below and remove them.

 

10. Thumbs move into little loops that surround little-finger loops from below and pick up the center-side strings of the loops.

 

11. Thumbs pick up near index-finger strings. Navajo thumbs.

 

12. Release index fingers. Index fingers move into thumb loops from below and remove them.

 

13. Thumbs move under intervening strings and hook down the transverse string (central part of the far little-finger string).



14. Release little fingers.
